Interior Construction Helm Area (1)

Bow Area internal framing

A general view showing the carved frame that supports all the chines in position and locates the front bulkhead. Oddly the frame joining the topsides and the bulkhead is aft of the bulkhead: the two meet at the chine.

The chines meeting at the bow

There is not much of especial interest under the spinnaker chute. The stringers meet at the bow in a reasonably conventional manner. The ply web joining the chine stringers is a nice touch. Apologies for the poor focus - its not an easy area to get a good photo of and manual focussing was just as bad.

Double skin in the bow area

The double skinning in the bow area is highlighted in red. This area forward under the mast is very critical as it takes all the wave impacts as the boat goes upwind. Its a notorious failure point. Its just possible - in the linked larger picture at least - to make out some cracking of the single outer skin between chine and the double skin area. The ply here is very heavily curved and the innermost veneer is starting to fail. Some reinforcement of this area looks advisable!
