Stripping Paint in the Cockpit

Having revealed several problems I started work on removing paint from the interior to resolve them.

Once I started on the inside - and especially after taking some photographs for the construction pages - I reluctantly came to the conclusion that I have to take as much paint as possible out of the interior and get it back to bare wood too. This web site is one of the more significant reasons in some ways, as I believe its worth documenting the construction of the boat, but pictures of an all black interior just aren't clear enough. So its time to go back to the varnish, at least in the Helm Area. It does seem, now I come to investigate carefully, that the original interior was all varnished, and so its worth getting back to that as far as possible. However this will not be easy - there are very large and very structural areas of epoxy based glass and carbon layup with filler where the boat had been repaired after the Wave at Weston. Its not going to be easy to get anything that looks half way reasonable in this area. Maybe I shall just have to paint it some kind of vaguely "varnished wood" colour. The alternative of starting the whole repair all over again using laminated layers of 2mm ply to replace the glass doesn't really bear thinking about, and in any case the birch ply used in the models doesn't remotely match the original ply anyway!

Anyway I carried on removing paint and seeing what else would need doing.
