Problems Revealed (3)

As I was Cleaning up the Inside of the boat and removing all the black paint I came upon:

Nasty Surprise No 3

On stripping the black paint off the main lateral beam. I discovered that the top wooden strut of the beam is cracked roughly where shown by the arrow below. Maybe it cracked in the sudden loads caused by the Wave at Weston. - or maybe its nothing to do with Weston at all, and some helmsman years ago slipped over and gave the beam an almighty kick? Its very difficult to spot - I only noticed because while I was stripping paint off it the beam seemed much less rigid for and aft than I would have expected, and without the black paint I could see this crack opening up. I suppose I'll have to laminate a new piece of wood into the beam.

So there was plenty to get on with! It was time to start thinking about the Repairs and Reinforcements that were going to be needed.
